Questions & Answers

How It Works

Why Choose Studio Kelly-Marie?

If you are looking for a more flexible and approachable way to design your home, Studio Kelly-Marie offers thoughtful interior concepts tailored to both the client and the space itself.

With experience working in Europe, I bring a broader design perspective, combining layered interiors, colour, texture, and practical solutions suited to everyday living. Each project is designed individually, creating spaces that feel unique, personal, and connected to how you live.

My concept-based packages are designed for clients who want guidance and a clear visual direction, while still having the freedom to work on their homes in their own time and at their own pace. Through practical advice, layout assistance, and realistic 2D or 3D concepts, clients can gradually bring their spaces together in a way that suits both their lifestyle and budget.

Rather than full project management and installation, Studio Kelly-Marie provides the vision, guidance, and visual concepts to help you confidently create a cohesive and beautiful home.

How do payments work?

Consultations are paid in advance to secure your booking. An invoice will be sent to your email with a secure payment link. Payments are processed via Square, which accepts major debit and credit cards. You can also choose to pay via tap and pay during the consultation.

1. pay on the day using tap and pay, or

2. receive a follow-up invoice via email

Instalment options can be discussed depending on the scope of the project.Once your payment is confirmed, I’ll begin preparing your design package and guide you through the next steps.

What does in consultation include?

An interior design consultation is designed to help you gain clarity, direction, and practical ideas for your space. Before the consultation, I will ask you to provide some information about your home, photos of the space, inspiration images, and if possible, a floor plan or simple room measurements. This helps me better understand your style, needs, and how you live before we meet.

During the consultation, we discuss your home, lifestyle, layout, colour palette, furnishings, and overall vision for the space.

Consultations are conversation-based and tailored to each client individually. Some clients use this time for guidance and reassurance, while others use it as the starting point for a more detailed design package.

You’ll leave with practical suggestions, layout ideas, styling direction, and clearer next steps for moving forward with your project.

Often, the consultation also helps shape the creative direction that continues to develop later in the studio, where layouts, colours, materials, and concepts can be explored in greater detail.

Please note, that consultations are guidance-based and do not include physically moving or rearranging furniture. Placement advice and recommendations are provided for you to implement at your own pace.

Consultations are available both in person and online via Zoom or WhatsApp video calls. Zoom and WhatsApp are charged at a 20% discount.

What are 2D Renders?

2D design concepts are visual room layouts that work similarly to a mood board, helping you understand how your future space can come together. They combine real furnishings, colours, materials, and styling ideas into a room concept that gives you a clear visual direction for your home.

Items used within the 2D concepts are often linked to real suppliers, making it easier for clients to source pieces and gradually bring the design together over time.

2D concepts are ideal for clients who are comfortable visualising a space from plans and reference images, while also keeping the design process more budget-friendly. You can view examples of these concepts throughout the Portfolio page.

What are 3D Renders?

3D rendering is the process of creating realistic digital images of a space or design using specialised 3D software. It allows concepts and ideas to be visualised in a much more lifelike way, helping clients better understand how a finished space may look before any work begins. A 3D render can include realistic lighting, shadows, textures, colours, materials, furniture, and styling details to create depth and atmosphere within a space.

Depending on the project, renders can appear highly photorealistic or be styled in a softer, more artistic way. At Studio Kelly-Marie, 3D renders are carefully created by hand using your room measurements, layout, and design selections. Real furnishings and décor ideas are often incorporated where possible, helping you visualise a space that feels achievable and connected to real products and materials.

3D rendering is a wonderful tool for exploring interiors, layouts, renovations, and styling concepts, giving you greater confidence and clarity throughout the design process. You can see examples of these on our portfolio page.

Important to note: Access to your 3D renders, including the 360° room views, will remain available online for up to 3 months. Your design booklet will include images of the 3D renders, but we recommend taking screenshots or screen recordings of the 360° room views if you would like to keep them for longer.

3D renders are created as a visual representation and and not to exact scale.

Do you offer Online Interior Design or E-Design services?

Yes, I have been providing online interior design or E-design services for many years, guiding clients through a simple and effective process. To understand your style and needs, I will send you a set of questions via email. I will also ask you to provide a layout, normally this is on your real-estate listing or you can make a simple sketch of the room with dimensions,  several photos of your room, and any inspirational images you love.

Based on this, I create a personalised interior design booklet, included in my interior design plans, which walks you through your new style and clearly explains how to achieve it.

Will you tell me exactly what to buy?

With the 2D design booklet  & 3D design booklet package includes a shopping list of local and or Australia wide retailers for furniture & decor. If you are a client based in USA or Europe, these will be links to stores and suppliers in your country.

Please Note, consultation, Layout & Visulisation and K&B styling may not come with links or references to source decor, furniture and materials.

What kind of budget do I need?

I work with a range of budgets and tailor the design to suit what feels comfortable for you.

Because my plans are concept-based, you have full flexibility in how and when you bring the design to life. Unlike traditional interior design services that involve purchasing and installation, you’re not required to commit to everything upfront. You can move at your own pace and invest in your space over time.

Good design isn’t about spending more, it’s about making thoughtful, intentional choices. Sometimes a simple change, like a new colour direction, a feature wall, or the addition of artwork, can completely transform a space.

What if I already have some furniture or elements I want to keep?

That’s absolutely fine. Your design will work with your existing pieces wherever possible, helping to create a cohesive and balanced result without needing to start from scratch. With 3D renders, I can create most existing furnishings and add these into the design so you get a fully finished idea with your existing pieces.

Can you help with colour selection?

Yes, colour is a big part of what I do. You will receive basic colour advice verbally with a Consultation or with Visuals to Layout & Concept Design with colour swatches and or wallpaper ideas.

With 2D Design Booklet, 3D Design Booklet & K&B services you will receive the exact paint colour with codes, brand advice and links to any wallpaper. I help you choose colours that feel cohesive, balanced, and suited to your space and lifestyle.

What is your design style?

My style is modern transitional, calm, and intentional, with a strong focus on colour and a layered sense of balance. I have worked across a range of styles, from modern minimalistic and contemporary interiors to transitional and one of my personal favourites, the Dutch-inspired rustic farmhouse style often known as sober landelijke stijl. However, if you have a particular style in mind, I’m always happy to discuss it with you.

I draw inspiration from Dutch design principles, where practicality, simplicity, and thoughtful living have long shaped the home. This influence is complemented by elements from Scandinavia and France, creating spaces that feel both refined and lived-in, where old and new sit comfortably together.

I also enjoy working with feature walls, wallpaper, texture, colour, and contrast to create spaces that feel unique and full of personality, while still remaining calm and cohesive.

Each design is tailored to suit the Australian lifestyle and climate, resulting in spaces that feel comfortable, considered, and connected to everyday living. Personally, I’m drawn to palettes that feel cool, moody, and tropical, layered with a balance of modern simplicity and subtle antique character.

Do you work with plants?

Yes, I love incorporating plants to bring warmth and softness into a space.

I often recommend faux plants as a practical, low-maintenance option that still achieves a natural look. But you are welcome to swap this over for a real plant. For example, if I suggest a faux palm for height and structure, you could choose a real option such as a Kentia Palm, Areca Palm, or Parlour Palm in a similar size, all of which are commonly available at places like Bunnings. I’ll also suggest the style of planter to ensure it works with the overall design.

I’ll guide the scale, style, and placement, while leaving the final choice between real or faux plants up to you.

Do you source furniture and decor?

The basic design service I provide after the consultation Visual to Layout & Concept Design are visual recommendations with decor, furniture and colour. However I provide recommendations and guidance on where to find pieces with shop links with the 2D & 3D design booklets.

I do not purchase items on your behalf at this stage. This keeps you in control of your budget and decisions.

Do you provide technical drawings for construction or for Kitchen & Bathroom?

This service focuses on layout, styling, and design direction. While the plans are detailed and practical, final technical drawings and installation details are completed by your selected trades people or kitchen & bathroom supplier/builder.

Can I use your plans with my kitchen supplier or builder?

Yes. The layouts, elevations, and overall design direction are created to be shared with your kitchen supplier, builder, or trades. They provide a clear visual guide for how everything should come together, helping ensure the final result stays aligned with the design.

I feel overwhelmed, can you simplify things for me?

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m here for. When choosing on of my more detailed plans, I help break things down into clear, manageable steps so you can move forward with confidence in an easy booklet with info to help guide you through the process step-by-step with fantastic visuals.

What if I’m unsure about the final design direction?

Each project involves a significant amount of time, planning, research, and creative development, which is why design services are non-refundable. However, the consultation and design process are carefully structured to ensure we are aligned before moving forward.

We discuss your ideas, preferences, inspiration images, colour direction, lifestyle needs, and any existing furnishings you would like incorporated into the design. Throughout the process, I also provide updates to help ensure the overall direction feels right for your home.

All 2D and 3D design packages include one complimentary revision after delivery, allowing adjustments to be made where needed.
